On July 10th, the Film University Babelsberg, the HPI and the VRBB invited the two Oscar winners John Nelson and Gerd Nefzer to the discussion “Behind the Scenes - VFX and SFX in Blade Runner 2049”. (Nelson and Nefzer, along with Paul Lambert and Richard R. Hoover, won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in Blade Runner 2049 in 2018.) The two-time Oscar winner John Nelson had visited the volumetric studio "Volucap" beforehand and was curious to experience the results in real life afterwards. Accordingly, I invited him to watch the UFA VR production “A Whole Life” in the UFA house. During the tour, John Nelson revealed that he was a passionate fan of the old UFA films and was impressed by how UFA's legacy is portrayed in the VR production “A Whole Life”. He described the application of volumetric film as "mind altering" and "mind blowing". I am very happy that I have succeeded in getting somebody like John Nelson excited about this new technology. Nelson immediately developed several ambitious ideas in which he could use this technology. I hope that takes what he has seen here with him to Hollywood.
